We derive our livelihood from mothers. Every year, every day, we celebrate the goat mothers that give us milk to make our cheese. Without them, we would not have a goat dairy business. We treat them with dignity and kindness, and try to do right by them when they get sick or old. One of our core principles from the start has been to let "goats be goats" (within reason, of course). We give them pastures to browse, shelter from the storms and play structures to climb. They give us babies and milk for many years. Most of our goat mothers lead productive lives until they are nine or ten years old; the commercial goat dairy standard is closer to four to five years. This weekend, when we celebrate our human mothers, let's raise a glass of goat milk to the goat mothers.
