What is there to do?

The best thing to do at the farm is to slow down and just enjoy the time. We are a quiet corner of the prairie, staffed by people who are very passionate about artisan food, regenerative agriculture, and animal welfare. You can enjoy a meal at our restaurant, Caprae, sit under our pavilion and share a bottle of wine and a cheese board while listening to music, go for a walk on our walking trail, and visit with our goats. We are a working farm, so our herd isn't always available for viewing. Sometimes, they are out at pasture, or it may be milking time. When they are in and around the barns, you are welcome to scratch heads, pet necks and take pictures. When they are out at pasture, you can enjoy the view of happy animals on healthy land. Come into Caprae and head to the bar and ask for a cheese sample! You'll be presented with a small sample of our freshest cheeses, made right on the farm, and a menu of our current offerings. You can purchase cheese and gelato at the bar to take home with you or to enjoy at the farm. Visit our Caprae page to learn more about the restaurant and our event page to learn about upcoming farm events

Are children welcome?

Of course! We love to see children at the farm. Just know that we do not have any (human) kid-specific activities. Our typical visitors are adults, enjoying the land and our cheeses and a well-made cocktail (or mocktail). Our menu is elevated, and while we love the opportunity to introduce children to slow food, prepared mindfully with quality local ingredients, we do not have a kids' menu. As we are a working farm, you must keep a very close eye on your children at all times. Equipment and animals can be unpredictable, and we ask that you take that seriously and prepare your children for the visit accordingly.

Can I bring my dog?

No. Please leave all four-legged friends at home unless your companion is a service animal. We have strict biosecurity measures in place to protect our herd, and no outside animals are permitted on the property.

Parking

Upon arrival, please look for RED flags indicating the entrance to our parking lot. It may be muddy or slippery (as we are a working farm), so please use caution when walking to and from your vehicle. If you require ADA parking, please proceed 100 yards north on Lincoln Ave to the driveway marked with a BLUE flag indicating Reserved Parking. There is a concrete pad with a paved walkway leading you to the entrance of Caprae. Drivers are welcome to pull forward to the reserved parking area to drop off guests that may wish to avoid walking in from the parking lot. Please do not drive past the ADA reserved parking area. The main drive up to the barns is reserved for staff and service vehicles only.

Methods of Payment

We are a cashless business, and there is no cash or way to make change on the premises. We accept all major credit/debit cards and Apple Pay.

I love goats and gardening! How can I get involved?

We love goats and gardening too! We also love our volunteers! Our volunteer program is perfect for people looking to learn about regenerative farming, responsible animal husbandry or who just want to spend a few hours a week someplace really pretty, hanging out with wonderful people doing something really fun. Our volunteer program is for individuals aged 18 and up who are willing to make a commitment to volunteer for more than just one shift. We do not have any volunteer opportunities for children. Groups interested in one-time volunteer opportunities are welcome to reach out to inquire, and our farm educator will be in touch. VetMed students and AG/ACES students from Parkland and UIUC are always very welcome!

I want to learn more!

If you are interested in a deeper dive into our farm's operations, we welcome you to join us for our weekly Farm Tours on Fridays at 3:30pm. Our farm educator will take you on a 1 hour tour, explaining our farm systems and the stories behind our amazing cheeses. All ages are welcome, but participants must be comfortable walking over uneven ground. Tickets for our weekly tours are available here.
